introducing...kati!

it was love at first sight! we've looked at hundreds of cats and for some reason john was infatuated with this picture of kati. he took it upon himself to get in touch with her family, and now she's a part of ours! (kati is a 3 year-old gray tabby mix. her family was thai and her name means coconut.=)

we picked her up tuesday night and she's adjusting wonderfully. when it was time for her to come home with us, she actually walked into the cat carrier! from the moment kati stepped foot in the door she's been actively exploring, from the highest basement rafters to the lowest nooks and crannies. after five days of killing us with cuteness, she's officially the new queen of the house.=)

 hi!

kati is so sweet and playful! she looks so much like the madj that i do believe they are distant cousins.=) we've played for hours but she really wants to go outside, so we're going to work on getting her ready for walks on a leash. apparently you can't just slap on a collar and take them out like you would with a dog, though we haven't tried yet. do any of you take your cats for walks?

    1. thanks malle! she's a dream come true! very cool that it's a popular estonian name! the way we pronounce it would usually be spelled katie, but i like that her name ends in an i, like mine.=)

    1. thanks jenny! she seems to like it here. i think it's more stimulating then her old home with all the birds, dogs and stray cats outside, but john and i play with her a lot so i think (and hope) she's having fun! she's also slept in bed with us every night.=)

  8. Kati is so cuuuute! I can see why it was love at first sight. Congrats on the new addition! I've seen people walk their cats but when we had ours she would just follow us around the neighborhood like a dog. I miss her...

    1. aww i didn't know you had a cat! tell me more about her! kati's always been an inside cat so we're nervous letting her go out. she's very easy-going so i think she'll do ok on a leash. fingers and toes crossed!

ps i've been reading each of your posts via my phone email but haven't been able to sit down and comment. i'm loving them!!!

    2. Sorry for the delay in responding but yeah, we had a beautiful gray cat (almost like a Russian Blue) with yellow eyes. Sam named her Mostaza, which means mustard in Spanish. Grey Poupon was the inspiration. lol. We tried for the first few years of her life to keep her indoors but she was MISERABLE. She was sick often (eating things she shouldn't because she was easily bored), had behavioral problems as a result of being indoors, and wasn't a fan of strangers especially kids (didn't like their sudden, unpredictable movements). Well, we finally let her outside and watched her like a hawk. But we noticed she was happier and more "normal" when she got to be outside. We knew the risks but what kind of life is it being miserable? She was part dog I swear. She wasn't a lap cat but loved being with us and going for walks. She even had a hideout that she took us to (seriously). She brought us "gifts" all the time too. She was so fun and funny and we cherished the few times she'd cozy up on our laps. Sadly, she met an early end (truck we suspect). Still makes me sad to think about. Anyway, I could go on about her. One day, we hope to have another cat or two. When Caleb's older. I've always loved kitties, more than dogs. :)
