a quick hello and a digestive support tea recipe

hello hello! i hope you're all having a nice weekend. it's flurrying here! i'm enjoying a restful day indoors, knowing that next weekend and probably each one after will be spent doing garden work.

just wanted to stop in and say that i'm learning so much about oxalates and how they could be causing the discomfort i've been experiencing. i've got myself on a low to medium oxalate diet and have been pain-free for two days. after i wrap my head around everything, i plan to do an in-depth, detailed post. i'm even thinking of doing a video, but we'll see if i have the courage to post it.=)

along with low-oxalate eating, i've been drinking a lot of herbal teas. my sweet mom made me my favorite childhood meal of stuffed cabbages, but i was hesitant to partake because of the high oxalate tomatoes and the uncomfortable gas i usually experience with cabbage. so i made myself a tea with herbs and spices known to help with digestion, and lo and behold, it worked!

since many are celebrating st. patrick's day tomorrow with various gas-inducing treats, i wanted to share this tea recipe. you may already have some of the ingredients in your spice cabinet. you can omit any, but in my experience the combination of fennel and caraway seed works best.

digestive support tea

1 tsp fennel powder
1 tsp ground caraway seed
1 tsp cardamom powder
1 tsp dried mint leaves

place ingredients in a tea ball or tea filter and steep 10 to 15 minutes in 1 to 2 cups of hot water. for best results, drink before and after meal.

enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. The tea sounds delicious. Those are some of my favorite flavors. I tend to put fennel in everything when I'm cooking, I like it so much. I also like the idea of digestive tea. I often have a cup of ginger or peppermint tea after dinner. I didn't know that fennel and caraway helped with digestion.

Also, sorry to hear about your interstitial cystitis (from your last post). Here's an interesting fact about IC that I just found out about: My cat's vet told me that it's common in women and female cats. My cat suffers from it, and I see my human patients with it, too. I hope you find some relief.

And, I would love it if you posted a video!!!

    1. hi nikki=) the tea does taste good, which is an added bonus. and the fennel in your food is aiding digestion!=) fennel seed is high oxalate but the tea is not, lucky for me. and caraway also helps ease mild menstrual cramps.

thank you. i had no idea cat's could suffer from it, but i have heard of cats getting uti's. (i bet many are being misdiagnosed, like i was.) does your cat's food contain any high oxalate ingredients? (wheat, carrot or spinach?) or could she be lacking in calcium or magnesium? i hope you find the answers to help your kitty.

oh my goodness, i did make a video and it was 28 minutes long! i was so distracted by the way i looked on camera and had an epiphany that i am getting old! bah! it was fun though. with some practice i'll get one that is post-worthy.

  2. I will write that tea recipe down!! Sounds great. I always drink peppermint tea when my tummy is "off" and it works almost instantly.
Hey...cabbage rolls?? Are you Polish Kelli? I am half Polish and grew up on Galumpkis!! I need to find a way to make a raw vegan version :) ha ha ha
