pea art and garlic harvest

this weekend was just what i needed. i played in the garden, then played with my food.=)

                                                   tall telephone shelling peas

                                                           sugar snap peas

garden broccoli and peas with quinoa

our garlic was really early this year - two weeks earlier than last summer, and they were early then! we picked all 45 bulbs and put them in the basement to dry.

garlic has become one of my favorite things to grow. it's basically maintenance free and easy to plant. the organic cloves from the grocery store have always done the trick. just break up the bulbs and plant individual cloves pointed side up, four to six inches apart, a few inches deep, within two weeks of the average first frost (early fall around here). you got all that?=) for those lacking garden space, garlic can also be grown in containers!

  2. Awesome tips with the garlic! I LOVE cooking with garlic (seriously . . . it may be an issue how much I love this stuff), and I had no idea it was so easy to grow on your own. I'll definitely be giving this a try! Thanks! :]

  12. Your pea art is gorgeous, almost too beautiful to eat ... but I love fresh peas from the garden and would be tempted to sample. Reminds me of snacking on them in my mom's garden as a child.

  13. So beautiful!!! I wish we could garden like that down here.
I just finished eating my raw cauliflower marinade that had pea pods in it!!! Unfortunately my pods were store bought not fresh from the garden.
My son planted some garlic and enjoyed eating the greens on his meals. The bulb in the pot never really grew in size. We were thankful for the greens just the same.
    Peace and Raw Health,
    Elizabeth
