this week's photos

the granny squares

oh, the granny squares. what a ride it's been. i just want to have this bright happy blanket on my bed before gardening occupies my free time. so i've been rushing to get it done and not noticing that my squares are coming out all different sizes. i'm also not crazy about some of them. do i just keep going or start over? i've elicited the advice of an expert crocheter and am waiting to see what she says before i make a decision. maybe the size differences won't matter much?

here's the dilemma as i see it - i could keep going, spend another 20 hours or so to finish it up with the potential of it not looking as good as it could (uneven and all). but it would be done, and if anything it will be bright and colorful. plus i can always make another.

-or- i could just scrap the whole project and start over again when i have enough of the same type of yarn. i'm leaning towards just trucking through and finishing it up. it's just hard to be motivated to do something when you know that it won't be "perfect" in the end. but how can i know that it won't be perfect, and what's it matter anyway? what would you do?

here's a better photo of the squares on a white background in natural light, minus a few new ones.

i hope you all had a nice week. it's hard to believe it's friday already, and that next week will be march! yesterday john and i celebrated 5 years together. he's been extra sweet and made me tea last night. he also said he'll take me thrifting later. i'm going to make him his favorite chocolate peanut butter banana shake for lunch, and i've also got an idea for a chocolate avocado mousse/chia pudding parfait for dessert tonight. john's got a major sweet tooth.=)

speaking of, i told one of the girls i sit that she had quite the sweet tooth. she shouted "yes, i've got two sweet tooths actually!" and proceeded to point them out to me! ha! kids!=)

wishing you all extra sweetness this weekend!

  1. The not tuna is soooo good! I'm glad you posted about it because it reminded me that I haven't had it in a while. I save little jars too and use them for food storage, packed lunches, and sending food stuffs home with visitors.

I love the granny squares and I think part of the charm of home made projects is that they're not perfect. I think you should finish it, flaws and all, and then make another one later if you want to get better at it. It looks beautiful to me. But that's just my opinion. :)

    1. hehe, we all have different names for the tuna. bitt says untuna.=) i found organic collard wraps for sale and thought to make it. they go perfect together.

you're right, and i think i will finish a smaller version of the blanket. this way i can leave out the squares i dislike and it won't take as long to finish.

  2. I think the squares look great! I hope you don't scarp them. Is there a smaller project you could do if there aren't enough?

You got me hungry for untuna now.

    1. thanks aimee! oh, i'd never get rid of them. each one takes too much time. you gave me the great idea to just make a smaller blanket. i was so set on making this large blanket that the thought never occurred to just change the size. duh!=)

  7. Hi Kelli! Wonderful blog :) I just tried making my own quinoa sushi, but when I tried to cut it, it was a mess. Your rolls look so nice and neat! Any suggestions on how to get them to stay together like that? I ended up just eating them in one log because the quinoa was spilling all over the place when I sliced into it.

  8. love that nut tuna, you remind me it's time to make more. Congrats on 5 years for you and John! So sweet! And I love what the girl said to you about have two sweet tooths! ha ha! I love it when kids say such funny things...and show you the proof. Even better! ha ha! I wish I could help you with your dilemma with the g-squares but I actually didn't even notice the size difference! Maybe that will help in your decision. Just keep going. If you don't mind the imperfections, who's gonna know? :) I think it looks great!
