around the garden

the weather has been absolutely gorgeous, and if it weren't for those darned mosquitoes, i would spend all day in the garden. not sure if albert (that's what the kids named the spider) is helping with the issue, but i have seen him wrapping up other creatures.

there's the amaranth i planted in the butterfly garden. the plants stand proudly over six feet tall. amaranth grains are similar to quinoa and millet, so i hope to be able to harvest them when the time comes. i asked john, "is this picture too grainy?" (a little farm/photo humor.=)

we've also got autumn beauty sunflowers around the garden. those and the amaranth keep reminding me to enjoy summer while it lasts, as fall is surely fast approaching.

there's miss kati, running over for some garden rubbins. she likes us to rub her back while she nuzzles the grass. one of the cutest things i've ever seen.=) everyday we find her sleeping in the butterfly garden and lounging on the bench. she's loving this weather, too!

enjoy your weekend!

  1. LOVE your pictures!
We used to have spiders like that (I think they're banana spiders? as a kid I called them zipper spiders because of the weird pattern in the middle of their webs). I love them! They're just so bright with these incredible webs, and I've never once seen them in the house. I wouldn't want to walk into his web though! Yikes!
I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. That amaranth is beautiful. I learned of this grain 17 years ago when our fist baby was found to be allergic to rice, wheat and oats. I had to make EVERYTHING from scratch and amaranth flour was a life saver back then. Now alternative grains are everywhere.
Beautiful sunny, I am showing Mason your pic.He said, "OHHHHHH, it's beautiful". I love 9yr old boys...they are still sweet and innocent!! Well, our 7yr old and 4yr old are still also!! :)
    Peace and Raw Health,

  6. That spider is amazing. I love watching spiders build and take down their webs. Last night we saw two spiders on one web. The one was wrapping his catch and the other was just hanging on. They are interesting to watch.
