organic csa week 16: the final haul

green leaf lettuce, broccoli (there was a limit, which is why you only see two heads and not ten) acorn, spaghetti and kabocha squash, spinach, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, kohlrabi, bok choy, cilantro, sage, rosemary and thyme

 siamese squash

 kabocha, my favorite

beautiful broccoli

celebratory s-muth-ies

cheers to muth family farm's 10th year of community sustained agriculture, and to many many more!

i had a chance to talk to farmer muth today who said this was his roughest growing season yet, with hurricane irene and record rainfall. funny because i thought this season's bounty was better than the last! poor farmer muth said he thinks he's aged 20 years, but that talking to the people he grows for makes it all worth it. on his site he says it's truly a labor of love. aww!

  1. It's so nice that you get your vegetables straight from a farmer. And wow you can still get a lot of stuff! We have nothing in our greenhouse anymore. The weather is already too cold.

  5. I'd say to Mr. Farmer Muth he had a most awesome season - to me anyway and I'm just looking!

That broccoli looks so good! I went to get some yesterday and it was very very sad. I left broccoli-less.

I have yet to try a kabocha. Will have to look for one. I hear it's super good.

  6. Still jealous of your CSA haul ... but in a good way (I think it's great that you belong to one). I bet it is sad to see it end.

  7. malle, that's the last of it, and our weather is supposed to get much colder starting tomorrow.

samantha - i'm going to miss all those colors!

rick, lucky! i'm really dreading food shopping.

lauren, i know, very sad. 35 more weeks til muth starts next season!

heidi, it really was great! despite the disasters, like the melons floating down the road and blocking the sewage pipes! and so many of their plants were flooded. they predicted it, so i guess they were ready. for next year they're predicting a drought. where are the happy medium summers?!

shannon, it really is. i think i'm in denial a bit. it will hit me when i'm out of fresh produce and have to go to the store to buy it.=(
